Latcham Art Centre is now showcasing The Part of Me That Recognizes You.
The exhibition delves into themes of identity, place, and belonging, as interpreted by Toronto-based artists Joel Rodriguez, John Delante, Christina Leslie, and Steven Beckly.
“The multifaceted and personal nature of connection is at the heart of The Part of Me That Recognizes You,” the exhibition brochure explains.
Rodriguez fuses embroidery with photography, using vibrant threads to highlight personal memories and emotions within each scene.
Delante’s photographs span his life in the Philippines and Canada, reflecting a complex sense of home rooted in diverse relationships and places far apart but close to him.
From her series, The Album, Leslie’s photographic compilations focus on the endurance of her parents’ interracial relationship and how it brought together different cultures.
Beckly utilizes objects and materials to build emotional and physical connections to his photography, exploring the interactions between people, nature, and environments as part of our sense of belonging.
The Part of Me That Recognizes You will be on display at Latcham Art Centre until August 24, 2024.
