- Town Staff have changed their recommendation and are now advising Council to select Greenwood Park for a new disc golf course.
- The change comes due to opposition from residents of the Ken Laushway Woods area, who expressed strong disagreement to the use of the woodlot for a future course.
- “Staff recommend Greenwood Park be designated for a pilot disc golf program based on community feedback and its ability to meet the priority criteria for safety of park users, ability to minimize potential impact to the environment, as well as the availability of local parking,” the report states.
- Over 170 surveys were submitted as part of the public consultation process. Respondents indicated an interest in playing disc golf and emphasized park safety, environmental impacts, and parking availability.
- A majority of respondents supported a course designed for beginner to intermediate players, and Ken Laushway was the least desirable location. Greenwood, Byers, and Lehman’s Pond were equally supported as alternatives.
- From the initial $25,000 approved budget, $12,464 was used to purchase the necessary equipment to undertake the installation, the report explains.
- The remaining $12,536 will be used to contract the design and installation of the course.
- Council will decide on the matter at their upcoming meeting on June 21.
