- A temporary ban on all open-air burning, including recreational fires, has been implemented across the municipality.
- It was done “to safeguard the community’s property and public safety, as well as to ensure the well-being of our dedicated firefighters who tirelessly respond to incidents caused by unauthorized burning activities,” a recent press release states.
- The ban was issued across York Region and will remain in place until weather conditions improve to allow safe open-air burning.
- All active burn permits are hereby suspended, the release adds, and no new permits will be issued until the ban is lifted.
- Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services (WSFES) is emphasizing the importance of community-wide compliance with the burn ban.
- “By doing so, we collectively ensure the safety of ourselves, our neighbours, and the entire Whitchurch-Stouffville community. We strongly urge all residents to stay informed about the ongoing situation and exercise caution during this period of heightened fire risk.”
- The Town is urging anyone witnessing an open-air burn to not delay and report it immediately by calling 9-1-1.
- Updates will be posted on the Town’s website as well as the WSFES Facebook and Twitter pages.
