- In what has become an annual affair, Latcham’s upcoming exhibition, “IMAGES 2023-2024: Meraki,” showcases over 60 unique student artworks, presenting a diverse range of media, techniques, and styles.
- Throughout their fall semester, grade twelve Stouffville District Secondary School (SDSS) students worked with Latcham’s curator to plan the exhibition, install their art in the gallery, create marketing materials, and organize the opening reception.
- “This exhibition is a celebration of these young artists and their unique perspectives, bringing fresh and dynamic artwork to the forefront,” Maxwell Batista, spokesperson for the Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library & Latcham Art Centre, told Bullet Point News.
- “This year marks the 28th iteration of the show, where ‘Meraki’ – a Greek term defined as engaging in activities with immense creativity or passion by infusing your heart and soul into your work – serves as both the theme and title,” Latcham explained in a recent press release.
- In their group artists statement, participating SDSS students tell viewers: “This is a group exhibit featuring artworks that are representative of who we are and where we are going as we embark on future creative endeavours.”
- “In this exhibit, you will find many visions of how we perceive the world,” their statement adds. “The art you will see showcases things that we obsess over, our passions, and interests, ranging from fantastical, vivid creatures to mechanical marvels, and anything that holds special meaning.”
- The Latcham team has compiled artist statements from individual students, as well, which can be read here.
- Tonight’s opening reception invites the community to meet with participating artists, view and discuss their works, and enjoy light refreshments.. Open to all and free of charge, the event begins at 7 p.m. in the Latcham Art Centre, located at 2 Park Drive.
- Supported by the Lions Club of Stouffville and the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, the exhibition will be open to the public until January 13, 2024.
