In its current form, Bill 23 – the More Homes Built Faster Act, 2022, will cause a 52% increase in taxes for Stouffville residents over the next 4 years to cover the cost of development.
Mayor Iain Lovatt wrote a letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing with a possible solution but the Minister has not responded.
The Mayor stated that there is enough land in Stouffville’s whitebelt area for new development but development will occur on the Greenbelt because it is the decision of the province.
All signals from the province show that they are moving forward with Bill 23. Will protests change the legislation?
