- Construction has started on a new trail connection in Memorial Park linking the Park Drive multi-use trail to the Stouffville-Rouge Trail.
- The trails will also be connected to the pedestrian pathway at Lori Avenue and Thicketwood Boulevard.
- Work runs until June 2026, with restoration plantings planned for next year.
- Town Staff expect the Memorial Park toboggan hill to remain open and unaffected.
- However, a site visit being conducted next week will confirm any potential impacts to the hill.
- York Region funding supports the project, which is expected to conclude in June 2026.
Work is underway on a new trail connection at the east side of Memorial Park, a project that will strengthen Stouffville’s active transportation network and improve links between key recreational routes.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is constructing the link between the multi-use trail on the north side of Park Drive and the Stouffville-Rouge Trail system south of Hoover Park Drive. The project also includes a new pathway connection at Lori Avenue and Thicketwood Boulevard.
Construction is expected to continue through June 2026, with tree and shrub plantings scheduled for restoration next year. Work will run Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., and the site will be closed to residents for public safety.
According to Town Staff, the Memorial Park toboggan hill is expected to be unaffected and will be open this winter. However, a site assessment being conducted by the Town next week will confirm any potential impacts.
Construction vehicles will enter primarily from Park Drive, with additional access for work crews at Lori and Thicketwood. Residents may notice dust and noise during working hours, according to the project notice, and are asked to obey safety signage and avoid restricted areas.
The project is supported by funding from York Region. For future trail expansions, Town Staff said decisions will be guided by several factors, including funding availability, environmental considerations, and community feedback.
Like the new link between Ken Betz Court and Madori Park, the Memorial Park project supports the Town’s goals of providing safer, more accessible routes for walking, cycling, and recreation and improving connectivity across Stouffville’s trail system.
