After ten years and three elections in the Markham–Stouffville riding, local voters outside of Stouffville’s southeast urban corner will find themselves in a new electoral district for the 2025 federal snap election.
The newly formed York–Durham riding (map) unites rural Whitchurch–Stouffville with the Town of Georgina, the townships of Brock, Scugog, and Uxbridge, and the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation and Mississaugas of Scugog Island reserves. The district includes an estimated 96,869 eligible voters.
All Whitchurch–Stouffville residents living between Highway 404 and Highway 48 now fall within the new riding, along with those residing north of Bethesda Sideroad between Highway 48 and the York–Durham Line.
Encompassing more than 1,800 square kilometres, York–Durham incorporates portions of the former York–Simcoe, Pickering–Uxbridge, Durham, and Haliburton–Kawartha Lakes–Brock ridings. The change follows a federally mandated redistribution process conducted between 2021 and 2023 aimed at better balancing population numbers across ridings.
As of Wednesday, April 9, five candidates have been confirmed in the York–Durham race:
- Patricia Conlin, People’s Party of Canada
- Justin Graham, New Democratic Party
- Rob Grossi, Liberal Party of Canada
- Jacob Mantle, Conservative Party of Canada
- Matt Pearce, Green Party of Canada
Bullet Point News has contacted all candidates or their parties with a profile questionnaire and will publish their responses as they are received.
