- The BU14 Stouffville Mustangs secured their second victory in a 3-1 home match against the Thornhill Thunder.
- Team captain Karthick Thushanthan got things started, scoring an early goal in the first half.
- Daniel Iljeh’s power kick from the far right saw the Mustangs up 2-0.
- Thornhill didn’t give up, however, and they powered through for an early second half score.
- A handball penalty saw Thushanthan line up for a penalty kick. He lifted the ball and it bounced off the goalkeeper’s mitts, but the team captain rushed in for the rebound.
- He kicked it hard to the right and in, and the Mustangs locked in their win.
- Following the match, Thushanthan explained how he dealt with added pressure in the second half:
- “We were still on the offensive at the beginning of the second half,” he said. “Around 70% into time, I decided to go back and play more defence to put pressure on Thornhill. I didn’t want them to have more chances to shoot on Jalen Banks, our goalkeeper.”
- The Mustangs are now preparing to face a skilled Newmarket team next week.
