Stouffville’s voter turnout has more than doubled since Sunday afternoon. More than 38,000 eligible voters have yet to cast a ballot, however, and the pace of voting has slowed heading into the final days of the 2026 municipal election.

As of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, 4,811 ballots had been cast, a turnout of 11.04 percent among the Town’s 43,571 eligible voters, according to figures provided by Stouffville’s Clerk. That’s up from the 2,252 ballots, or 5.17 percent, reported late Sunday afternoon.

The total now equals 40 percent of the 12,023 ballots cast in 2022, when turnout reached just 34.19 percent. Internet voting continues to drive participation, accounting for 3,712 ballots, or 77 percent of the total, with another 1,099 cast in person at advance polling places.

While the numbers are climbing, they’re climbing more slowly. Voters cast 2,733 ballots over the opening weekend, an average of more than 1,350 a day. Since Monday, that pace has eased to roughly 700 a day. If that rate holds through the weekend, Stouffville would enter Election Day with roughly 7,600 ballots cast, about 4,400 short of 2022’s total.

Matching 2022’s turnout rate across today’s larger electorate would require nearly 14,900 ballots. Every ward except Ward 2 has at least doubled its turnout since Sunday afternoon, though Ward 2 still leads with 1,219 ballots and a 19.1 percent turnout.

Ward 4, the Town’s largest ward, has seen the strongest growth, climbing from 4.07 to 9.85 percent. Ward 5 (11.51%), Ward 3 (10.54%), and Ward 6 (9.09%) follow, with Ward 1 (7.33%) lagging behind.

Plenty of opportunities to vote remain. Advance voting continues at the Municipal Offices building from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 24, which marks the final day all three advance locations, including Ballantrae Community Centre and the 55+ Club, will be open before Election Day. Internet voting remains open until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Monday, Oct. 26, when nine polling places will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
