- Stouffville’s in-person advance polls have closed with 6,842 ballots cast, a turnout of 15.69 percent among 43,606 eligible voters.
- If three of every four ballots again come after advance polls close, as in 2022, turnout would reach about 64.7 percent, well above 2018’s 47.63 percent.
- Even matching 2022’s roughly 9,100 Election Day voters would lift turnout to about 36.6 percent, surpassing that year’s result.
- Early ballots already surpass the 2018 and 2022 advance votes combined, and the turnout rate is nearly double 2022’s advance figure of 8.3 percent.
- Internet voting accounts for 5,307 ballots, or 78 percent of the total, and remains open until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
- The pace of voting has held at just under 700 ballots a day since Monday, roughly half the opening weekend’s rate.
- Ward 2 leads at 25.58 percent turnout, while Ward 1 remains the lowest at 10.35 percent.
- Nine polling places will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, and residents can vote at any location.
While internet voting remains open, Stouffville’s in-person advance polling places have closed for the 2026 election. Early turnout has put 2022’s result within reach, and a strong Election Day on Monday could push Stouffville past even 2018’s high mark.
As of 8:30 p.m. Saturday, 6,842 ballots had been cast, a turnout of 15.69 percent among 43,606 eligible voters, according to figures provided by the Town. Internet voting accounts for 5,307 of those ballots, or 78 percent, with another 1,535 cast in person at advance polling places.
That total already surpasses the advance votes of the last two municipal elections combined, and this year’s early turnout rate is nearly double that of 2022.
Election Day has traditionally been when most Stouffville residents vote. In 2022, roughly 9,100 ballots, or three of every four, were cast after advance polls closed.
If this year’s early surge reflects stronger interest overall, and three of every four ballots again come after advance polls close, Stouffville’s turnout would reach about 64.7 percent, well above even 2018’s 47.63 percent.
That would take roughly 21,400 Election Day ballots, nearly double 2022’s entire turnout.
If the surge instead reflects residents shifting to earlier, online ballots, Monday’s total will land lower. Should Monday match the roughly 9,100 residents who voted after advance polls closed in 2022, turnout would reach about 36.6 percent and surpass that year’s result.
Early signs are encouraging, but the pace of voting hasn’t picked up as Election Day approaches. Voters cast 2,031 ballots between Wednesday evening and tonight, slightly fewer than the 2,078 cast over the three days prior. Both stretches averaged just under 700 ballots a day, which is about half the opening weekend’s pace.
Every ward has now passed 10 percent turnout, and Ward 2 continues to lead with 1,636 ballots and a 25.58 percent turnout. Ward 5 (16.42%), Ward 3 (15.01%), and Ward 4 (14.76%) follow, while Ward 6 (13.09%) and Ward 1 (10.35%) trail.
Wards 4 and 6, the Town’s two largest and home to nearly half of its eligible electorate, account for nearly 17,500 of the voters who have yet to cast a ballot.
Four years ago, advance voting was offered on just two days, at 6240 Main St., the Ballantrae Community Centre, and the Municipal Offices building. That year, 2,915 people voted in advance, a turnout of 8.3 percent among 35,124 eligible electors.
In 2018, advance voting was offered at only the Ballantrae Community Centre and Municipal Offices building, also for just two days. Those advance polls drew 2,269 votes, a turnout of 7.56 percent among 30,025 eligible voters.
Final turnout fell from 47.63 percent in 2018 to just 34.19 percent in 2022. While the number of in-person polling places has decreased from 13 in the last election to nine this year, many hope the introduction of internet voting and the Town’s Vote Anywhere model will help reverse that decline.
Surpassing the last election’s 12,023 ballots will take about 5,200 more votes before polls close. Matching its 34.19 percent turnout rate across today’s larger electorate would require roughly 8,100.
Residents can vote online until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Monday, Oct. 26, using the instructions mailed to all registered voters. Additional details, along with election and candidate coverage, are available on the Bullet Point News and 102.9 Whistle FM Stouffville Votes 2026 website.
