- With June being Ontario Bike Month, York Regional Police (YRP) are planning an enforcement blitz targeted at both motorists and cyclists.
- Using drones and traditional enforcement methods, YRP officers will be on the lookout for improper driving and cycling behaviors.
- Officers will also boost educational efforts to ensure drivers provide the legally required one metre of space when passing cyclists.
- “The strategic objective of the One Metre campaign is to change attitudes of both drivers and cyclists and improve the relationship between these groups,” a YRP press release explains.
- The campaign officially launches tomorrow with an event at York Regional Police Headquarters, followed by a planned 40-kilometre group ride.
- “Improving driving and cycling behaviours, while increasing knowledge and understanding of the laws, will lead to safe streets and safe people, two of the York Regional Police Road Safety Strategy goals,” the press release added.
