- In partnership with Newmakeit, a collaborative workspace and community hub in Newmarket, York Region is bringing its Repair Café program to the Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library on Saturday, November 18.
- Repair Cafés provide an opportunity for community members to see a range of broken household items fixed by volunteers free of charge, bringing them back into use and avoiding unnecessary waste.
- To participate, Stouffville residents must sign up for a repair slot through the Town’s registration system. An account is required, and just over 30 spaces were open at the time of publishing.
- While the repair specialties of volunteer fixers may vary, items that can be fixed include bicycles, jewellry, simple sewing needs, small appliances, and toys.
- If your item requires replacement parts, visitors are asked to ensure they have them on hand for their repair slot.
- York Region has highlighted the following items that cannot be fixed:
- Broken zippers
- Hems and alterations
- Gas-powered machinery like chainsaws, lawnmowers, and snow blowers
- Items containing hazardous waste including gas, oil, chemicals, and pesticides
- Large kitchen appliances
- Single-serve coffee machines
- Sewing machines
- The Repair Café will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Library, located within Stouffville Leisure Centre at 2 Park Drive.
