- Over 200 musicians and vocalists, representing six local schools, performed for a standing-room-only crowd at Stouffville’s 28th annual Student Music Scholarship Concert on Thursday, October 19.
- The event is organized by St. James Presbyterian Church and was held at the Stouffville District Secondary School (SDSS).
- The Scholarship Concert, last held in 2019, had been on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Stouffville District Secondary School’s Wind Symphony kicked off the event with Canada’s National Anthem.
- SDSS flautist Hannah Musselman was awarded the annual $1,000 Concert scholarship, which supports post-secondary education tuition costs.
- The St. Brendan Grade 3-6 Choir concluded the performances, including a song composed by Jack Boylen, a Grade 10 SDSS student and member of the local Muffin Men Band.
- Organizers and performers have collectively raised over $140,000 in support of local school music programs over the concert’s three-decade history.
- Audience members also made generous donations to the Little Free Pantry at St. James Presbyterian.
- Event founder and chair, Jim Thomas, expressed gratitude to fellow committee members Pat Welch and George Smart, as well as the many volunteers from the St. James Presbyterian Church congregation.
