• In early December 2022, the provincial government announced plans to open up 15 properties in the Greenbelt for development. Two of these properties are located in Stouffville.
  • Both Stouffville properties are located on McCowan Road, between Stouffville Road and 19th Avenue.
  • These properties were purchased in 2020 and 2021 for $12.5 million and $25 million respectively – before the decision to allow development on the Greenbelt was announced.
  • In 2021, these properties received a Ministerial Zoning Order (MZO) for a 1,556-home “agriculturally-inspired” development. Stouffville council endorsed this MZO, with only Ward 6 Councillor, Sue Sherban, voicing opposition to the large development.
