York Regional Council approved a slew of speed limit reductions at their April 27 meeting.
The following Stouffville roads have seen a 10 km/h reduction and will now operate with 70 km/h speed limits in place:
Kennedy Road from 300 metres north of Major Mac to 150 metres south of Stouffville Road.
McCowan Road from 945 metres north of Major Mac to Stouffville Road.
Stouffville Road from Woodbine to 700 metres west of Highway 48.
Warden Avenue from Heritage Hill Drive in Markham to Stouffville Road.
Woodbine Avenue from 478 metres south of 19th Avenue to Stouffville Road.
The changes were made for the sake of speed limit consistency, according to Regional staff, though the Stouffville Road reduction also seeks to improve traffic operations.
“Setting consistent speed limits encourages compliance and improves safety,” the Staff report noted.
A “NEW” sign is added to each speed limit sign at the beginning of the reduced speed zone to inform motorists.
