A temporary ban on all open-air burning, including recreational fires, has been implemented across the municipality.
It was done “to safeguard the community’s property and public safety, as well as to ensure the well-being of our dedicated firefighters who tirelessly respond to incidents caused by unauthorized burning activities,” a recent press release states.
The ban was issued across York Region and will remain in place until weather conditions improve to allow safe open-air burning.
All active burn permits are hereby suspended, the release adds, and no new permits will be issued until the ban is lifted.
Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services (WSFES) is emphasizing the importance of community-wide compliance with the burn ban.
“By doing so, we collectively ensure the safety of ourselves, our neighbours, and the entire Whitchurch-Stouffville community. We strongly urge all residents to stay informed about the ongoing situation and exercise caution during this period of heightened fire risk.”
The Town is urging anyone witnessing an open-air burn to not delay and report it immediately by calling 9-1-1.
Updates will be posted on the Town’s website as well as the WSFES Facebook and Twitter pages.
