• A comprehensive report outlining Stouffville’s 2023 development activity was presented:
    • 96 new planning applications were submitted to the Town.
    • Building permits were granted for 453 new residential and institutional units and 500,000 square feet of non-residential development, resulting in $1,936,475.22 in revenue.
    • Stouffville exceeded its 2023 housing start targets by 239%, potentially leading to upwards of $7 million in provincial funding through Ontario’s Building Faster Fund.
  • Public consultations were approved and a report was discussed regarding zoning regulations to permit additional residential units within existing settlement area properties, which we detailed in a recent article.
  • Council approved updates to the Municipal Flag Policy, which include the following important changes:
    • Presentations to Council requesting the flying of community or alternate flags on the Town’s community flagpole will no longer be permitted.
    • Instead, organizations and community groups seeking to raise a flag must complete the Flag Raising Request Form.
    • That form will then be submitted to the Clerk’s division for consideration.

  • Status reports on Stouffville’s Built Heritage Inventory Review and Heritage Conservation District Plans and Guidelines were received.
  • Council approved a request from the Heritage Advisory Committee seeking Staff investigation into the feasibility of recreating the Brierbush Hospital entrance pillars to help commemorate its significance within Stouffville’s history.
  • A resolution from the Municipality of Calvin was endorsed. It asks for provincial funding and training related to cemetery operations, as well as assistance in assuming and managing abandoned cemeteries.
  • A request from Stouffville’s 707 Marion Orr CM Air Cadet Squadron asking for Town participation in, support of, and help promoting the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force was referred to Staff for consideration.
  • Council approved a draft plan of condominium for a 33-unit commercial development at 185 and 195 Mostar Street.
