• Council’s return from summer recess began with the commemoration of Stouffville’s U14AAA Yankees for becoming provincial baseball champions at a recent tournament in Etobicoke.
  • Representatives from the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation provided a presentation on their services, fundraising, and hospital expansion plans.
  • A delegation from the Stouffville Lions Club regarding Stouffville’s recycling program, environmental threats from litter and dumped waste, and alternate means for communal waste disposal was referred to staff. A report on possible solutions will be returned to Council in the near future.
  • Murray Pattenden of the Stouffville Legion provided a delegation to Council asking them to consider returning Stouffville’s cenotaph to Memorial Park. Staff will report back on options for doing so at an upcoming Council meeting.
  • With only Councillor Sherban in opposition, Council approved Staff’s recommended pledge to meet the provincial target of building 6,500 new homes by 2031.
  • Mayor Lovatt will submit the Town’s pledge to the Minister of Municipal Housing and Affairs by October 15, granting him strong mayor powers he has said are not needed.
  • Council approved a $980,840 contract to Thomas Brown Architects Inc. for the architectural design, consulting, and contract administration services for the new joint fire station and paramedic response station coming to Aurora Road.
  • Council approved the proposed 2023-2024 Council meeting and municipal offices schedule. A carried amendment from Councillor Upton resulted in Easter Monday remaining open and Town Hall being closed from December 24 to the first business day following New Year’s Day.
