• A new 40,000-square-foot Medical Arts Building has opened at 211 Sam Miller Way in Stouffville.
  • The facility was developed by Dr. Ryan Chen and his father, Larry Chen.
  • The new healthcare hub will house family medicine, an urgent care centre, a pharmacy, a dentist, an audiologist, an optometrist, and a cosmetic clinic.
  • Dr. Chen said the goal is to bring more healthcare services to Stouffville and reduce the need for residents to travel to Markham or Newmarket for care.
  • Chen’s family medicine clinic will occupy 4,000 square feet on the fourth floor, with plans to recruit at least six family doctors and additional specialists.
  • Mayor Lovatt says the facility will help meet growing demand for healthcare services, provide care closer to home, and potentially ease pressure on Markham Stouffville Hospital.

A new Medical Arts Building in Stouffville is expected to expand access to healthcare services while creating a centralized hub for family medicine, urgent care, diagnostics, and other healthcare providers.

The 40,000-square-foot facility on Sam Miller Way was developed by family physician Dr. Ryan Chen and his father, Larry Chen, with a vision of bringing more healthcare services closer to home for local residents.

“We want to bring the kind of modern medical building that I think Stouffville deserves. So hopefully today we’ve achieved it,” Dr. Chen said.

The building is ready for occupancy, and efforts are underway to bring on more tenants and onboard additional healthcare professionals.

“Our goal was just to build the best building we could, to bring the kind of healthcare I think Canadians deserve,” Dr. Chen added. “And no better setting than Stouffville to do it.”

The building is designed exclusively for healthcare-related services. Dr. Chen said several tenants have already been secured, with additional announcements expected in the coming months.

Calling the new facility “a total healthcare hub” where his own family practice will be located, Dr. Chen said the project is largely about addressing a gap in local healthcare services as Stouffville continues to grow.

“Because this city is growing. Like most of my patients, we have to refer to Markham or to Newmarket for services like specialty care. Why can’t we have it here in Stouffville?” he said.

He offered a list of expected services at the new Medical Arts Building, noting that they hope to bring more allied healthcare to the community. “We have, so far, family medicine, a pharmacy and urgent care centre…a dentist, a cosmetic clinic, an audiologist, and an optometrist.”

Chen’s family medicine clinic will occupy approximately 4,000 square feet on the building’s fourth floor and include 15 examination rooms. He hopes to recruit at least six family physicians, along with specialist physicians, to work from the facility.

Mayor Iain Lovatt called the project a significant investment in the community and an important addition to the town’s healthcare infrastructure.

“This is incredible,” the Mayor said. “This is going to be home to urgent care, a pharmacy, and medical practitioners. It’s going to be a landmark…medical facility for us, bringing care close to home. We’re very excited.”

The new Medical Arts Building is also expected to become a regional destination for healthcare services.

“This is going to be home to diagnostics, family doctors, obviously the urgent care, hopefully offloading some of the demand on the emergency room at Markham Stouffville Hospital,” Lovatt added. “There’s a huge need for this in our community, and as we grow, as Markham grows north to our border, this is going to be a significant location for residents to come and seek healing and care.”
