York Regional Police (YRP) continue to investigate 29 rock throwing incidents which have occurred throughout the region since July of last year.
Of the instances in which charges have already been laid, four of them involved rocks being thrown at moving vehicles. They took place last year on July 10, Nov. 14, and twice on Oct. 19.
According to YRP, an occupant of a moving vehicle was injured due to a thrown rock on Oct. 19. That incident resulted in the 17-year-old’s Assault with a Weapon charge.
Seven instances involved rocks being thrown at parked vehicles, and nine more saw rocks thrown at area residences.
In addition, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating numerous rock throwing incidents that occurred on Highway 48—including one which saw two people sent to hospital with life threatening injuries.
OPP told Bullet Point News that they could not comment on their investigations at this time but noted they are ongoing. Anyone with a tip or information related to rock throwings that occurred on a Provincial highway are advised to contact the OPP.
“It was relayed to me that [YRP is] very confident that they’ve got the issue covered now and we shouldn’t have any further issues unless there is some sort of copycat experience that happens in town,” Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt said during Wednesday’s Council meeting.
“That’s good news for our community.”
