Temporary lane closures are coming to Stouffville Road this summer as York Region prepares to resurface the corridor between Highway 48 and Highway 404.

According to a Regional notice, crews will replace the existing asphalt, repair and renew culverts to improve water flow beneath driveways, and upgrade guardrails where required. The work will also include intersection improvements at Woodbine Avenue, Warden Avenue, Kennedy Road, and McCowan Road, including new pavement markings and vehicle detection sensors.

While no full closure of Stouffville Road is planned, temporary lane restrictions will be required throughout construction. The project is scheduled to run from June through early August and, similar to last year’s resurfacing work on York Durham Line, is also being planned to minimize disruption for motorists.

To accelerate timelines and reduce traffic impacts, York Region will carry out the most disruptive work during nighttime hours. Paving and related activities are scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Additional work, including the planned intersection upgrades, will take place during daytime hours. The Region said that construction is scheduled on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Access to homes and businesses will be maintained,” the notice states. “As with all construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible.”

As part of its broader 2026 road maintenance program, York Region is also planning rehabilitation work on Vivian Road between Woodbine Avenue and Highway 404. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane during construction, with resurfacing activities scheduled Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“We understand construction creates challenges for the community and we are working to deliver this project with minimal disruption,” the Region assured.

Residents and motorists with questions or concerns can contact York Region’s Transportation division by email. An after-hours phone line will also be available for urgent issues, with additional project information posted on the Region’s project websites.
