The Housing Accelerator Fund aims to incentivize and facilitate expedited delivery of additional housing through zoning and policy reforms. The second stream will provide a total of $400 million to eligible municipalities.

In an upcoming Ontario Land Tribunal appeal, Hyson Developments will contest Stouffville’s decision to deny Official Plan and Zoning By-Law amendments needed to permit a 210-unit building at 5964 Main Street.

York Region Staff have conducted a review of all Regionally owned buildings and lands to identify opportunities for repurposing and more efficient land use. While no feasible buildings were identified, Staff found lands which could be used for additional housing.

While a lack of public parkland remains a sticking point, conditional approvals were granted for five buildings consisting of 800 total units at the northeast corner of Main Street and Highway 48.

6745 Main Street, built as early as 1846 and listed on Stouffville’s Built Heritage Inventory, was approved for rezoning to facilitate an addition and permit six apartment units.

The nine structures are currently standing on stilts in the Clippers Sports Complex parking lot.

The decision opens the door for a possible Ontario Land Tribunal appeal.

The applicant is seeking an Official Plan Amendment to add 6031 & 6037 Main Street to Stouffville’s Western Approach Mixed Use Area.

Eleven estate homes along Cam Fella Boulevard and Mohawk Gate, representing a total of 8.35 acres, will be demolished and replaced with 24 detached homes and 117 townhouses.

The move follows the Town’s unsuccessful application to the Federal Housing Accelerator Fund program.

Parking minimums can prohibit the delivery of new housing when requirements cannot be met due to costs or execution challenges.
