• A recent CTV article circulated in a local community group discussed Canadian municipalities still using asbestos cement pipes for local water systems.
  • Concerns over asbestos leaching into water supplies were covered in the investigation, and it was noted that it’s not typical for municipalities to test for asbestos in drinking water.
  • Bullet Point News reached out to Brian Kavanaugh, the Town’s Director of Public Works, and asked whether or not Stouffville is using any of these pipes for local water distribution.
  • “The Town’s drinking water distribution systems do not have asbestos cement water pipes,” he told us.
  • “I’m not aware of testing having been completed for asbestos in the Town’s drinking water, Kavanaugh continued. “Given the absence of asbestos cement water pipes, there are currently no plans to test the Town’s drinking water for asbestos.”
