• According to the PSA, “The Town of Stouffville’s Animal Services team has responded to reports of geese in distress at multiple locations.”
  • Staff wear gloves and masks when collecting deceased birds and disinfect their clothing and equipment with veterinary grade disinfecting solutions.
  • The Town then submits samples for testing to the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative.
  • Residents are advised to keep their distance from wild birds and animals and to avoid any contact with those appearing sick or deceased.
  • Although some wild birds may get sick and die, others can be infected and still appear healthy.
  • Residents should also avoid contact with bird droppings and thoroughly wash their hands following contact with water or other surfaces frequented by birds.
  • Cats should be kept indoors and pets should be leashed to avoid any contact with sick or deceased wildlife.
  • Residents should also consider removing backyard bird feeders and baths.
  • Report any animals appearing sick or deceased to Animal Services by calling 905-640-1900 or emailing customer.service@townofws.ca.
