- The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) has concluded its search for a permanent Director of Education and has chosen Bill Cober, the current Superintendent of Human Resources Services and Chief Negotiator.
- Cober joined YRDSB in 1996 and has held various roles within the Board, including elementary school teacher, Vice Principal, Principal, and two Superintendent positions.
- YRDSB’s Director of Education plays a crucial role in setting the Board’s strategic direction, ensuring effective management, and guiding and promoting education within the York Region District School Board.
- “Bill brings nearly 30 years of experience in public education in York Region and has extensive educational leadership experience, as well as experience in municipal government,” said Ron Lynn, Chair of the Board of Trustees, in a recent press release.
- “Bill has strengths in relationship building, strategic decision making, and building equitable and inclusive organizations,” Lynn added. “He has a collaborative and strategic approach to leadership and a passionate belief in the capacity and potential of all students.”
- Scott Yake has been serving as the Interim Director of Education since November 2022 and will continue in that role until July 31.
- “We are grateful for the dedicated and thoughtful leadership Scott has provided during this interim period. We have benefited from his expertise, commitment to relationship building and inclusivity, and his focus on student achievement and well-being,” Lynn commented on the departing Director.
- With Cober soon at the helm, the Board will initiate a comprehensive review of their strategic plan while preparing for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.
