  • Beyond Route 9, Councillor Sue Sherban spoke to the importance of delivering real transit expansion and improvements to a growing Stouffville.
  • “We need more bus service,” Sherban told YRT representatives. “Transit needs to come before the people if we’re going to start a trend of people using it.”
  • In a tight 4-3 vote, Council decided to close the Memorial Park gates on Burkholder Street during summer weekends.
  • The Burkholder closures will occur May through September to facilitate safer park use, especially for families and kids using the Town’s new playgrounds.
  • Councillors Rick Upton, Hugo Kroon, and Keith Acton were opposed to closing the gates, wishing for the road to stay open with added speed humps.
  • Public consultation over a possible disc golf course in the Ken Laushway woodlot was approved.
  • Council also supported an update to the Commemorative Plaque Program for heritage properties throughout Stouffville.
  • A $132,347.41 contract was awarded to Vermeer Canada for a new wood chipper.
