- On Fri. Jan. 27 and Wed. Feb. 1, car thieves who are part of an organized crime circle run out of Quebec, attempted to steal Charlie Dahl’s vehicle from his driveway at Hoover Park Dr. / Sandiford Dr. in Stouffville.
- They ripped the wires out of the car’s horn to disable it so no one was alerted, then slim jimmed the car to open the car door, got into the car and had a laptop to plug into the car’s onboard computer to get the car started. Fortunately, Charlie had installed a steering wheel lock which would have required a hacksaw to cut it off so his car was not stolen.
- York Regional Police arrested people on Friday but said there are so many car thieves that it barely makes a dent. The organized crime circle steals cars, ships them overseas through sea cans, and sells them in third world countries with the Ontario license plate.
- Police’s advice:
- use a steering wheel lock
- park your vehicle in the garage if possible
- have a security camera system
- If you see people or cars you do not recognize in your neighbourhood, call the York Regional Police non-emergency line at 1-866-876-5423.
- Charlie suggests a “Neighbourhood Watch” program.
