- The Whitchurch-Stouffville Food Bank (WSFB) is conducting a fundraiser to support the expansion of their facility and meet increasing demand for its services.
- Founded in 1990, WSFB is operated entirely by volunteers thanks to a dedicated team of over 40 Stouffville community members.
- Over the past year, client visits have surged by 60%, resulting in a 70% uptick in the number of individuals served. Notably, 35% of those individuals are children under the age of 18.
- Despite challenges, The WSFB has maintained steady operations amidst such demand after having their available space halved in 2020.
- New but unfinished space has recently been secured, which will enable them to expand their services and enhance their clients’ experience. The estimated renovations costs amount to $50,000.
- The fundraiser will contribute to various construction projects, including electrical and plumbing work, food handling facilities, and warehousing setup.
- It will also assist in the delivery of a secure indoor client area offering seating and food pickup, as current space limitations require clients to collect their food outside.
- “We are so grateful for the support we receive from the Stouffville community, and we hope you will all consider assisting us in our renovation project to improve the Food Bank and better serve our clients,” WSFB Co-Chair Cathy Robinson said.
- Donations from local businesses and community members have already started pouring in. Residents can make individual donations through the WSFB’s fundraiser website or their donations page.
- The WSFB hopes to reach their $50,000 goal by October 15.
