On Tuesday, June 19, roughly 6,550 Stouffville Hydro One customers experienced a loss of power.
An equipment failure at the Armitage Transmission Station in Newmarket stopped hydro from moving to the exiting power line serving the impacted area.
The outage began just before 7 p.m. and forced local businesses, grocers, and restaurants to close.
Power was fully restored by 11:15 p.m. as operators routed service to an alternate line in stages.
“Being without power is challenging. We thank our customers for their patience as our crews and grid operators worked as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power,” a spokesperson from Hydro One stated.
Bullet Point News requested updates on Hydro One’s efforts to mitigate service interruptions and was referred to a list of measures provided last year following a major February outage.
Hydro One’s infrastructure reliability has been a longstanding concern throughout Stouffville, and Council has advocated for speeding up system improvement timelines.
