- $87,832.03 was raised, providing needed support for Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) thanks to local purchasers of the $1.50 charitable cookies.
- Restaurant owners from both Markham and Stouffville have also joined together in a $500,000 commitment to MSH.
- To recognize their substantial donation, MSH will name a paediatric surgical waiting room in their honour.
The recent 2024 Smile Cookie campaign ran from April 29 to May 5, with 100% of the proceeds donated to local charities and community groups across Canada. Nearly $20 million was raised in 2023, and over $111 million in donations have been made since the program began in 1996.
Markham Stouffville Hospital is currently focused on equipment and facility expansion to meet growing demand for its services, and community support is integral to their efforts. MSHF facilitates these growth plans by raising money and awareness of the hospital.
“Government funding can’t cover the cost of all critical life-saving equipment and top priority needs,” MSHF explained in a recent press release. “Generous donor support is essential to the exceptional care that MSH patients receive close to home.”
Allan Bell, Vice President of Community Relations and Corporate Partnerships at MSHF, expressed his appreciation for the long-standing support provided by the Smile Cookie program. “Tim Hortons’ commitment to making a difference in the lives of children in our community, and the tremendous support from the restaurant owners and their teams, will ensure we are able to meet the needs of our vibrant, growing community for generations to come,” he said.
Stouffville residents can further support MSH by participating in Stouffville’s second annual Main Street 5k. Details can be found on the event’s webpage.
