Environment Canada and the Province of Ontario have issued a special air quality alert for much of southern Ontario, including Stouffville.
There is high risk of deteriorating air quality due to the abnormally hot and sunny conditions we are experiencing.
Increased ozone concentrations can result in respiratory symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, headaches, and/or shortness of breath.
Anyone experiencing symptoms should consider postponing strenuous outdoor activities until the alert has been lifted.
“Exposure to air pollution is particularly a health concern for people with heart or breathing problems, those with diabetes, children, and the elderly,” the alert notes.
A return to moderate risk is expected this evening through tomorrow, with an expected return to low risk on Saturday evening.
Residents can track weather alerts and see if the warning has been lifted here.
